5 out of 5 stars Great Router   July 31, 2010

I got this to replace my old WRTG54G Linksys router (which still works and served me well, just wanted an upgrade). I was going to purchase the Cisco-Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router but, there were a few things that discouraged me. The first being that the E3000 is not DLNA Compliant, and can't stream to PS3 w/TVsersity or Media Player. The second was all the negative reviews compared to this one. Anyway, the only hick-up I had was during installation. The software wouldn't let me use special characters in naming the router or in it's password. I thought that was stupid and was about to return it when I went into the advanced settings (under the routers IP) and was able to add them there. After that was done the router has been running flawlessly for the past few weeks. No issues and fast speeds. Especially when wirelessly steaming media to my HDTV in the other room.

1 out of 5 stars Changing router brand not possible   July 29, 2010

Sales document failed to mention a critical issue...something that pops up as soon as you load the installation disk: if you are using replacing a router attached to a cable modem, you cannot change brands. I had a lynksys router. On screen instructions said I had to stay with a lynksys router! That would have been helpful information BEFORE I bought it!

5 out of 5 stars Wow, I should have gotten this a long time ago!   July 28, 2010

Although I've only had this for a day, I'm quite impressed. My old Netgear G router was buckling under the weight of 2 PCs, 3 laptops, 3 game consoles, 2 iPhones and a printer. I usually try not to spend this much for a router, but it was worth it, and more. Easy setup (10 minutes tops), and blazing speeds for everything, even when most are going at he same time.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   July 24, 2010

This is a great device if you are looking for a combination wireless access point and router to work with your cable modem. Pros for this device: easy set up and lots of features. With other similar devices you have to fiddle around with changing your static IP address (which I found to be difficult) for installation. I have a 64 bit system so I was a little nervous that there would be set up issues. All I did was put in the set up disc - it spun away - installation complete in under 5 min. VERY EASY!

4 out of 5 stars Consistent with the reviews   July 23, 2010

At first I was a bit hesitant to order this router, mostly because of the negative comments in the reviews. But after my current 5+ year-old Netgear router dropped my VPN connection for the umpteenth time I decided to take the plunge.

I shouldn't have waited as long as I did...it was simple to install and configure. Sure, I had to download the latest firmware before I could successfully configure my guest networks - but once that was done, I was able to complete the configuration through the web interface. I didn't bother with the installation CD, since I already had experience with the web interface with my old Netgear.

The only thing that I had a problem with, was getting the 300Mb/s link on my 5GHz band. After a bit of searching on the 'Net with Google, I found out that you can't get 300Mb/s with PSK. Once I changed to AES, the wifi on my laptop indicated a 300Mb/s - cool!

The router does run a little hot, but since I have it on end using the supplied stand it doesn't seem to be a problem. Granted it's only been a couple of weeks in use, but (knock on wood) so far, so good!

And did I mention the cool look of the different colored blinky lights?

Haven't tried QoS or traffic monitoring, so can't comment on that. But overall I'm quite satisfied with this product and would readily recommend to anyone. I still have older 100Mb/s wired and wireless-g equipment, neither of which makes use of the 1Gb/s wired or 300Mb/s wireless capabilities, but as the old stuff ages and gets replaced...this router will be ready to support the next generation equipment on my LAN.
